Lisa Virtue, Director

"If you are guided by your soul,
you will always choose the RIGHT PATH."

Lisa Virtue

An actor since the age of ten, and editor since 1993, Lisa Virtue turned fulltime to directing in 2005 to explore the subtleties of human existence as it is lived in isolation, in relationships, in work, in community and in the increasingly complex world of international society.

Warmly received at short-film festivals in 2007 and 2008, Lisa was selected by Warner Brothers as one of three ‘short-listed’ directors they hope to work with.

Born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Lisa grew up in a widely travelled diplomatic family, seeing her home community through the lens of foreign experience.

The much admired Canadian director studied psychology at Ottawa’s Carleton University before earning an Honours Diploma from Algonquin College’s TV Broadcasting program. She has studied with veteran filmmakers Deepa Mehta (Water, Bollywood/Hollywood), Gary Burns (Radiant City, Cool Money) and Kevin Tierney (Bon Cop–Bad Cop, Twist).

Lisa got her first taste of behind-the-scenes at Rogers Community 22, including working on The Tom Green Show.  Among her many credits since, Lisa directed, shot and edited the TV series Weekend Duffers for Sportsnet; was associate producer and production manager of the feature film “Crossing Nirvana”; and directed, produced and edited three short films, including CUBEd, which she also wrote. Lisa is currently working on developing several TV, feature film and internet projects.
